Theresa Kotvis is a color-obsessed abstract artist living in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon.
Theresa’s paintings are recognized by the solid fields of color placed side-by-side in a hard-edge style; and by the use of her preferred medium, acryla gouache, which has a velvet matte finish.
Many hard-edge artists will use tape while painting to create crisp separations of color areas. Theresa differs in that she does not use tape; she prefers the challenge of painting freehand allowing for the slight imperfections of the human touch.
Weavings, quilts, mosaics, and stained glass (all of which she has tried) are inspirational to Theresa, and elements of these art forms find ways into her paintings.
When she is not studying color theory or painting in her home studio chances are Theresa is out enjoying nature, taking a nap, or eating a donut.
